Week 4 Analysis

Week 4's analysis of how well the start/bench sites predictions for QB are below:

SI Start 'em Sit 'em
Suggested starters average ranking for the week: 11.75
Suggested starters average fantasy points for the week: 19.62
Suggested benchers average ranking for the week: 24.67
Suggested benchers average fantasy points for the week: 6.09
Finally SI steps up. Not only did their starters actually perform well but their benchers did not. At last the quality predictions I was expecting from them! All of their starters performed in the top 20 with an average of almost 20 points - not bad at all.

Ask the Commish Sit or Start
Suggested starters average ranking for the week: 12.83
Suggested starters average fantasy points for the week: 18.96
Suggested benchers average ranking for the week: 19
Suggested benchers average fantasy points for the week: 12.51
So one of the reasons I really think they did a great job this week is because ATC chose 6 QBs that performed in the top 10 of the week - half of their starters were in the top 10 and all but 1 were in the top 25. Their benchers performed much more poorly with only 1 guy in the top 10 and the majority doing far worse than the top 25.

FootballDocs Bench-Start
Suggested starters average ranking for the week: 10.75
Suggested starters average fantasy points for the week: 21.57
Suggested benchers average ranking for the week: 17.75
Suggested benchers average fantasy points for the week: 14.18
FootballDocs have redeemed themselves after a poor week in Week 3. They earn one of the top spots this week with an average right near 11th. However, their choices were varied placing 2nd, 5th, 16th, and 20th. I wouldn't exactly be thrilled with the recommendation of the 20th QB for the week so I've bumped them down a little bit for their inconsistency.

CoachBox Start/Bench
Suggested starters average ranking for the week: 7.5
Suggested starters average fantasy points for the week: 24.175
Suggested benchers average ranking for the week: 8.33
Suggested benchers average fantasy points for the week: 22.71
I added Coach Box this week and they had the highest average ranking and point totals for their suggested starters. Though with their benchers averaging only one spot behind their starters and still averaging over 22 fantasy points, I'm not sure that this is the best site to hit up for advice. Or at least for information on who not to play.

NFLFreaks Start-Bench List
Suggested starters average ranking for the week: 12.73
Suggested starters average fantasy points for the week: 18.72
Suggested maybes average ranking for the week: 16.63
Suggested maybes average fantasy points for the week: 14.68
Suggested benchers average ranking for the week: 16.89
Suggested benchers average fantasy points for the week: 14.83
A pretty solid job this week - almost half of their starters ended up in the top 10 performers of Week 4. However, they also suggesting maybe sitting 2 top 10 performers and definitely sitting 3 top 10 performers - not goes to show that the rest of the benchers and maybes they suggested were pretty awful. Again, the bonus to this site is that nearly everyone is mentioned.

NFL.com Start 'em Sit 'em
Suggested starters average ranking for the week: 13.63
Suggested starters average fantasy points for the week: 19.05
Suggested benchers average ranking for the week: 18.25
Suggested benchers average fantasy points for the week: 12.98
Very middle-of-the-road performance from the top predictor for Weeks 2 and 3. Disappointing. Like many, many FFers it appears as though the NFL had no faith in Brunell or the Skins. Shame on you all. I say that as a DC native and as an owner (and starter) of Santana Moss. Now if Fabiano had just switched out Brunell for Favre in his predictions it would've worked out a lot better for him...
I will say kudos to Fabiano though for choosing McNabb as the start of the week - he was the top QB and thus top performer overall for Week 4.

CBS Sportsline Start 'em & Sit 'em
Suggested starters average ranking for the week: 13.42
Suggested starters average fantasy points for the week: 18.26
Suggested benchers average ranking for the week: 18
Suggested benchers average fantasy points for the week: 13.03
This is nearly identical to NFL's predictions performance for the week - very average. I did like the bold selection of Frye as a starter for the week though. He certainly did produce as the number 5 QB of the week.

FantasySharks
Suggested starters average ranking for the week: 13
Suggested starters average fantasy points for the week: 19.01
Suggested benchers average ranking for the week: 17.5
Suggested benchers average fantasy points for the week: 15.91
Another average performance. There wasn't quite as much diversity between ranking and point totals of the starters and those of the benchers, so I bumped these guys down a little bit.

Fantasy Football Cafe
Suggested starters average ranking for the week: 15.2
Suggested starters average fantasy points for the week: 16.56
Suggested benchers average ranking for the week: 24
Suggested benchers average fantasy points for the week: 6.31
Pretty awful - even though Fantasy Football Cafe recommended 5 of the top 10 performers as starters for the week, they still have a much lower average than the other sites, indicating that they also made some bad recommendations. At least their benchers performed accordingly.

Yahoo/KFFL Who to Start, Who to Bench
Suggested starters average ranking for the week: 26
Suggested starters average fantasy points for the week: 3.94
Suggested benchers average ranking for the week: 11
Suggested benchers average fantasy points for the week: 19.48
Hardly even worth mentioning since they only suggested 1 player as a starter and 1 as a bencher. But it's interesting to point out how very wrong they were nonetheless.

Labor Day FF links

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. So like many of you I'm now turning my attention to the Week 1 games! But before we get to some player rankings and prep for Week 1, I want to make sure that all you experts out there are aware of the upcoming deadline for the annual accuracy contest that I run with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. I compare preseason positional rankings from experts to the final outcome of the fantasy season to see which site had the most accurate preseason rankings, and this year's deadline is fast approaching: September 9th by kickoff. Check out the info on the FSTA site for more details and be sure to e-mail me your submissions. Now, onto Week 1! First up, let's get to some of this

2010 Week 2 consensus start/sit

Greetings and happy weekend. I've got this week's consensus start/sit for you which is a tally of all the start/sit votes that players received in the various start/sit articles that I linked to earlier in the week. So while these aren't my personal recommendations, I do think knowing what the consensus is could be of help when making lineup decisions...so enjoy! Note: the players are listed in no particular order. QB Start: Michael Vick, Kyle Orton, Matt Ryan, Jason Campbell Sit: David Garrard, Alex Smith, Jay Cutler, Vince Young, Carson Palmer RB Start: LeSean McCoy, Darren McFadden, Ahmad Bradshaw, Brandon Jackson Sit: Tim Hightower, C.J. A hiatus

Update:  It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you all that yesterday, August 30th, I delivered our stillborn daughter, Caroline Mary. This has been an almost surreal and definitely heartbreaking experience and I appreciate the support in each and every one of your notes. Caroline will be honored and loved always. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your thoughts and prayers - they mean the world to our family. I have been a very poor blogger this month and feel I owe you all an explanation, particularly as this is crunch time for draft prep. I hope this is not too personal of a look into my life since I know most of you are just here for the football. I am nearly 18 weeks pregnant and we have learned that our baby (a little girl!) has triploidy, a chromosomal abnormality that means she has three copies of every chromosome instead of the normal two. The doctors have explained that it's a completely random occurrence and fairly rare that she has made it this far along, but tha
