Waivers for Week 8

Week 8 of the NFL season is quickly approaching. There were a surprising number of injuries and injury scares this week...so while Ronnie Brown owners are envisioning an ugly 2nd half of the season, and my fellow Frank Gore owners are crossing their fingers that his ankle sprain is minor, Steven Jackson owners are getting psyched for his potential return to the field this week. For those of you dealing with injury mishaps (or suffering from Week 8 byes), let's take a look at some of the waiver wire suggestions that are already up:
  • The FF Goat's Fantasy Football Waiver Wire and Sleepers Watch Week 8 - I basically think Tony Scheffler is the TE of the future and drafted him this year only to have to drop him a few weeks ago to cover injuries, etc. But the Goat sees Scheff as a potential bye week replacement against Green Bay if you need him this week...I couldn't agree more.
  • NFL's Risers & Fallers: Barber, White headline risers has your upgrades and downgrades and how that might affect your fantasy lineups.
  • The FF Geek Blog has become one of my favorite resources, I must say. They have not just one, but two articles of interest for free agent/waiver purposes. First, Waiver Wire Pickups, Keeper Sleepers, and Spot Starts: Week 8 has more Scheffler love and a reminder that Deion Branch is coming back from injury likely after their bye week this week. Also check out Cut Your Losses: Players to Drop, Week 8 if you're wondering whether or not Julius Jones deserves a bench-warming spot on your team.
  • Rotoworld's Waiver Wired, Dol-finished: Losing Ronnie has lots of nice, deep pickups for RB and WR as well as the more obvious free agents you're going to want to get this week.
  • FFToolbox's Week 8: Pickups of the Week - I picked up Garcia in two leagues to fill in for bye weeks and a Vince Young situation and he performed beautifully...FFToolbox considers that a trend that will continue.
Finally, I am trying again for Rockies World Series tickets after system/ticketing malfunctions yesterday - ticket go-time is at noon mountain time...wish me luck.

Labor Day FF links

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. So like many of you I'm now turning my attention to the Week 1 games! But before we get to some player rankings and prep for Week 1, I want to make sure that all you experts out there are aware of the upcoming deadline for the annual accuracy contest that I run with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. I compare preseason positional rankings from experts to the final outcome of the fantasy season to see which site had the most accurate preseason rankings, and this year's deadline is fast approaching: September 9th by kickoff. Check out the info on the FSTA site for more details and be sure to e-mail me your submissions. Now, onto Week 1! First up, let's get to some of this...

A hiatus

Update:  It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you all that yesterday, August 30th, I delivered our stillborn daughter, Caroline Mary. This has been an almost surreal and definitely heartbreaking experience and I appreciate the support in each and every one of your notes. Caroline will be honored and loved always. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your thoughts and prayers - they mean the world to our family. I have been a very poor blogger this month and feel I owe you all an explanation, particularly as this is crunch time for draft prep. I hope this is not too personal of a look into my life since I know most of you are just here for the football. I am nearly 18 weeks pregnant and we have learned that our baby (a little girl!) has triploidy, a chromosomal abnormality that means she has three copies of every chromosome instead of the normal two. The doctors have explained that it's a completely random occurrence and fairly rare that she has made it this far along, but tha...
