Waiver-ing on which guy to grab?

I've been scurrying around on waiver wires this morning trying to get all my bases covered for the first bye week (though I really consider the Bal/Hou Week 2 scenario a bit of a bye week) and the undeniable injury bug that has slammed most of my teams. If you're in the same boat, read on for some waiver advice:

  • If you've got a few IDPers who are on bye this week and need some filler suggestions, take a look at fantasyfootball.com's IDP Waiver Wire Heroes.
  • Hatty Waiver Wire Guru Week 4 - a few reasons I like this link in particular: 1. It's a video and sometimes when you're in an office, listening to fantasy content can be easier than reading it. 2. Hatty, your waiver wire host, is undefeated. That's more than I can say for myself, so perhaps this man's wisdom is worth hearing! 3. There are some less common names here - I appreciate that quite a bit.
  • Check out FFXtreme's Week 4 Fantasy Football Stock Market - I must say I'm glad to see that Smitty has at least some faith in Braylon Edwards and Chad Ocho Cinco going forward...
  • Rotoworld is full of waiver wire advice - there are some suggestions up on Gregg Rosenthal's blog, Pancake Blocks, and also in Rotoworld's weekly Waiver Wired article, The Mighty Quinn.
  • FFToolbox already has their Who to Start Rankings up for Week 4, divided up by position. FFToolbox also has a Week 4: Pickups of the Week article available. Oh to see McClain's name on here is killing me. Speaking of which, a quick update on my leagues: I ended up going 2-5 this week, so I did have some luck on my side last night. Though I'd like to note that I also had a monstrous week in the $100K Fantasy Challenge, which technically might qualify as an 8th league for me. I'll be updating you all on my weekly winners soon!
  • The FFGeekBlog has some free agent advice in The Wire: Waiver Wire Pickups for Week 4, 2008. I enjoy the fact that I apparently can most assuredly be called "desperate" based on who I've picked up off of the Geeks' list of suggestions for the week. Sadly, my WRs in many leagues weren't built for this Colston injury issue to overlap with bye weeks for the Colts and Pats.
  • Bruno Boys have more waiver wire advice for us, which also includes a nice watch list of guys you might want to monitor this week.

I drafted Nate Clements and David Harris to be my DB1 and LB1, respectively. After three weeks, both are mediocre. Is there reason to give either more time, or alternatively to cut bait? Top-scoring waivers include Chris Gamble, Quintin Mikell, and Dhani Jones. (Charles Tillman off the board--damn!)

Also, should I drop Jerious Norwood for Steve Slaton, or are they about equal?

Labor Day FF links

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. So like many of you I'm now turning my attention to the Week 1 games! But before we get to some player rankings and prep for Week 1, I want to make sure that all you experts out there are aware of the upcoming deadline for the annual accuracy contest that I run with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. I compare preseason positional rankings from experts to the final outcome of the fantasy season to see which site had the most accurate preseason rankings, and this year's deadline is fast approaching: September 9th by kickoff. Check out the info on the FSTA site for more details and be sure to e-mail me your submissions. Now, onto Week 1! First up, let's get to some of this

2010 Week 2 consensus start/sit

Greetings and happy weekend. I've got this week's consensus start/sit for you which is a tally of all the start/sit votes that players received in the various start/sit articles that I linked to earlier in the week. So while these aren't my personal recommendations, I do think knowing what the consensus is could be of help when making lineup decisions...so enjoy! Note: the players are listed in no particular order. QB Start: Michael Vick, Kyle Orton, Matt Ryan, Jason Campbell Sit: David Garrard, Alex Smith, Jay Cutler, Vince Young, Carson Palmer RB Start: LeSean McCoy, Darren McFadden, Ahmad Bradshaw, Brandon Jackson Sit: Tim Hightower, C.J. A hiatus

Update:  It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you all that yesterday, August 30th, I delivered our stillborn daughter, Caroline Mary. This has been an almost surreal and definitely heartbreaking experience and I appreciate the support in each and every one of your notes. Caroline will be honored and loved always. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your thoughts and prayers - they mean the world to our family. I have been a very poor blogger this month and feel I owe you all an explanation, particularly as this is crunch time for draft prep. I hope this is not too personal of a look into my life since I know most of you are just here for the football. I am nearly 18 weeks pregnant and we have learned that our baby (a little girl!) has triploidy, a chromosomal abnormality that means she has three copies of every chromosome instead of the normal two. The doctors have explained that it's a completely random occurrence and fairly rare that she has made it this far along, but tha
