Shanahan Gets the Boot

Wow. I simply cannot believe what just happened - Mike Shanahan was just fired as the Broncos head coach and director of football operations. I've been sitting here for about 30 minutes now trying to wrap my mind around this craziness. I am not a fan of this decision at all but now may the speculations begin...

you aren't the only one that is confused by this move!!
I know, CK0712! It's a nation of confused football fans right now. I'll be sure to check back with your blog (http://ck0712digit.blogspot.com/ - great site and extremely timely news) for more info after tomorrow's press conference!

Regardless of whether one agrees with Shanahan's dismissal, we should all be happy from a fantasy perspective... no more of those random running back shenanigans! (though obviously it was a necessity this year)

Just to dispel any speculation... I'm not considering the job.

That's pretty crazy, as it seems like he was doing a pretty good job grooming the diabetic wonder. Though "D" has been an issue under his tenure, so I wonder if ownership is looking to go with somebody that will shore up that side of the ball.

There's this consolation... they're not the Chiefs. *sigh*

Shanahan has been donking it up hard in the AFC West since Elway retired. I think it would be truly awesome if they managed to convince Shottenheimer to coach the donkeys.

Well buy looking into the past couple of drafts (Clady, Eddie, Marshall) that Denver has had it appears that they have some people in place in the front office who can step in and find talent on the Offensive side of the ball. Now can they find some Defensive players? Who else can handle the zone blocking scheme?

Here in NE the talk is of course Cassel, Pioli, & McDaniels and take some enjoyment from the misfortunes of the JESTS and Brett FRAUD. Good chance that Pioli goes to Cleveland seems to be a good fit although not sure that McDaniels (Canton, Ohio guy) goes with him but if he does don’t be surprised if Martz ends up as the new OC in NE. Other likely candidates to be HC if Pioli goes to Browns – Ferentz (HC Iowa), Pat Hill (HC Fresno State), maybe the Man – Genius but think he might end up as the DC.

Labor Day FF links

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. So like many of you I'm now turning my attention to the Week 1 games! But before we get to some player rankings and prep for Week 1, I want to make sure that all you experts out there are aware of the upcoming deadline for the annual accuracy contest that I run with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. I compare preseason positional rankings from experts to the final outcome of the fantasy season to see which site had the most accurate preseason rankings, and this year's deadline is fast approaching: September 9th by kickoff. Check out the info on the FSTA site for more details and be sure to e-mail me your submissions. Now, onto Week 1! First up, let's get to some of this

A hiatus

Update:  It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you all that yesterday, August 30th, I delivered our stillborn daughter, Caroline Mary. This has been an almost surreal and definitely heartbreaking experience and I appreciate the support in each and every one of your notes. Caroline will be honored and loved always. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your thoughts and prayers - they mean the world to our family. I have been a very poor blogger this month and feel I owe you all an explanation, particularly as this is crunch time for draft prep. I hope this is not too personal of a look into my life since I know most of you are just here for the football. I am nearly 18 weeks pregnant and we have learned that our baby (a little girl!) has triploidy, a chromosomal abnormality that means she has three copies of every chromosome instead of the normal two. The doctors have explained that it's a completely random occurrence and fairly rare that she has made it this far along, but tha
