Cutler bracketology and more

It's bracket time, my friends. This is one of those rare times of year when a sport other than football falls to the forefront of my mind. Though there are clever sites out there like The Hazean that have managed to seamlessly mesh together the beloved ritual of bracketology with fantasy football, for the most part I think many of us are just thinking about NCAA basketball. But never fear, I won't leaving you hanging on a Monday without the now requisite Cutler-McDaniels update and other FF links.
  • Will Jay Cutler and I both be moving to New York for the 2009 season? For details on Cutler's weekend talks and trade options, see the Fifth Down's Cutler Asks for a Trade. Jets Need a QB. Though not all experts are convinced that Cutler is going anywhere - check out Gregg Rosenthal's thoughts and concern for what this means for Cutler's fantasy value. Maybe I should start a Cutler's future bracket and start making bets with friends on the outcome. As for details on my potential move to NY, stay tuned...
  • Football News from a Chick reviews some of the latest moves in Happenings in & around the league overnight including LB Julian Peterson becoming a Lion and Joey Galloway becoming a Patriot.
  • The Bruno Boys' 2009 Fantasy Football Red Flag Players outlines a few players at each position that you might want to be a bit cautious about going into the 2009 season. A few names that pop out at me? Gates and Shockey, two former no-brainer TEs both make the TE red flag list this year.
  • Oooh, IDP rankings - I do love them. FFXtreme doesn't disappoint with their first installment of 2009 IDP rankings with a dynasty/keeper bent.
All for now, I'm off to polish up my bracket!

Sadly, after riding Cutler to the sweet smell of Championship victory in my fantasy league last fall, I knew as soon as Shanny departed his QB value would drop. He already has to learn an all-new system, so I guess a change of scenery will not make his fantasy value drop much further. NY Jets? They would need another WR to replace Coles. Who else needs a QB? San Fran? Minnesota? Cutler could easily beat out the guys they plan to bring to camp. Makes you wonder...

Labor Day FF links

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. So like many of you I'm now turning my attention to the Week 1 games! But before we get to some player rankings and prep for Week 1, I want to make sure that all you experts out there are aware of the upcoming deadline for the annual accuracy contest that I run with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. I compare preseason positional rankings from experts to the final outcome of the fantasy season to see which site had the most accurate preseason rankings, and this year's deadline is fast approaching: September 9th by kickoff. Check out the info on the FSTA site for more details and be sure to e-mail me your submissions. Now, onto Week 1! First up, let's get to some of this...

A hiatus

Update:  It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you all that yesterday, August 30th, I delivered our stillborn daughter, Caroline Mary. This has been an almost surreal and definitely heartbreaking experience and I appreciate the support in each and every one of your notes. Caroline will be honored and loved always. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your thoughts and prayers - they mean the world to our family. I have been a very poor blogger this month and feel I owe you all an explanation, particularly as this is crunch time for draft prep. I hope this is not too personal of a look into my life since I know most of you are just here for the football. I am nearly 18 weeks pregnant and we have learned that our baby (a little girl!) has triploidy, a chromosomal abnormality that means she has three copies of every chromosome instead of the normal two. The doctors have explained that it's a completely random occurrence and fairly rare that she has made it this far along, but tha...
