A look at free agency and even fantasy baseball prep

I am officially slacking on pretty much every project I have noted I'd be working on here on the blog over the past few weeks - I can't even remember to upload Olympic Curling Trials photos off of my camera to get you all some evidence of the game I now refer to as a sweet marriage between bar shuffleboard and bocce. I'll blame this on a relatively busy month at work (doesn't the library understand I need to focus on football in March?!) coupled with fun times with visiting family members - and probably just some lack of motivation. I am working on an update to my ranking of the rankings (for real) but if I've promised you any other projects or links or haven't gotten back to you about something, e-mail me all you want to remind me to get my act together.

Onto today's links...
  • Take a look back at some of the biggest free agency contracts over the past four years with CBS Sports' Free-agent spenders: Who chose wisely? and see which players were really "worth" their big money payday.
  • Oh we've got rankings my friends. Based on the name of the site, I am going to go out on a limb and assume that these rankings from Sons of the Tundra Dynasty Rankings are specifically for keeper leagues but they'll be of interest to all - QB, RB, WR and TE are available...love the use of "rubbish" here for the QBs. I have a coworker from the UK who is consistently delighting me with her British vocabulary - apparently I'm a Britophile of some sort.
  • Okay we've got a slew of free agency moves and subsequent fantasy impacts...
  • NoOffseason.com is rolling out a series of sophomore sleepers articles - so far we've got RBs and WRs. Not to state the obvious here but Eddie Royal's value only increases if Marshall's latest arrest leads to suspension time...
  • I'll be the first to admit that my fantasy baseball knowledge is extremely minimal, but when I checked in on Fighting Chance Fantasy to see what he's cranking out these days, even I could tell FCF was putting together some quality material. I'm impressed by the quantity and depth of posting here. So if you're a fantasy baseball player looking for a new resource for your draft prep, take a look at Fighting Chance Fantasy.
  • The NFL Draft prognostications continue. Take a look at DraftGuys for their 2009 NFL Draft rankings for Wide Receivers and Tight Ends. Their rankings will be updated weekly.
I've got bowling league night again tonight - I have been slowly imploding over the past few weeks but after a little bowling practice on the ol' Wii this past weekend, perhaps I'll be able to reverse this unfortunate pattern!

Sara, I'm just curious about how favorably or lenient your bosses are with your blogging on fantasy sports? Do they view this effort as something you have to do on your own time? Do they see it as positive press for the library? Is it something that is OK on "company time" as long as your other tasks are complete? And how do I get a job that lets me blog on company time? There's the real question!

If I'm the Colts I sign T.O. as fast as possible. The Colts organization should be able to make it clear that he'll need to be on his best behavior. And appropriate language in the contract wouldn't hurt either.

If they add T.O. and draft a RB to compete with the over-rated Addai, that offense will be a monster.

Also, New England would be a great fit for T.O. With Moss, Owens, & Welker it might not be a stretch to see Brady throw a record number of TD's.
Ha, bigboid I'm not sure there's a job that exists that lets you blog on company time without some caveats. Yes, I think my bosses do view the blogging as a bit of a positive for the library/librarianship in general, but I try to blog on my own time as much as possible. I rarely take a non-working lunch to balance out the "work time" that I spend on the blog and try to even get some of the links in the posts written at home the night before if at all possible. All of the articles I did for the Times and Bruno Boys I wrote at home on my own time, too. I think it's all very dependent on your work situation - I have a very flexible job with a lot of automony - a change in jobs could certainly change my blogability. :)

Nuts, I was really hoping you were able to crack the code on a job that allows for (and pays for!) blogging while at work. Outside a journalism job at a dying newspaper, that is.

Labor Day FF links

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. So like many of you I'm now turning my attention to the Week 1 games! But before we get to some player rankings and prep for Week 1, I want to make sure that all you experts out there are aware of the upcoming deadline for the annual accuracy contest that I run with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. I compare preseason positional rankings from experts to the final outcome of the fantasy season to see which site had the most accurate preseason rankings, and this year's deadline is fast approaching: September 9th by kickoff. Check out the info on the FSTA site for more details and be sure to e-mail me your submissions. Now, onto Week 1! First up, let's get to some of this

2010 Week 2 consensus start/sit

Greetings and happy weekend. I've got this week's consensus start/sit for you which is a tally of all the start/sit votes that players received in the various start/sit articles that I linked to earlier in the week. So while these aren't my personal recommendations, I do think knowing what the consensus is could be of help when making lineup decisions...so enjoy! Note: the players are listed in no particular order. QB Start: Michael Vick, Kyle Orton, Matt Ryan, Jason Campbell Sit: David Garrard, Alex Smith, Jay Cutler, Vince Young, Carson Palmer RB Start: LeSean McCoy, Darren McFadden, Ahmad Bradshaw, Brandon Jackson Sit: Tim Hightower, C.J. A hiatus

Update:  It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you all that yesterday, August 30th, I delivered our stillborn daughter, Caroline Mary. This has been an almost surreal and definitely heartbreaking experience and I appreciate the support in each and every one of your notes. Caroline will be honored and loved always. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your thoughts and prayers - they mean the world to our family. I have been a very poor blogger this month and feel I owe you all an explanation, particularly as this is crunch time for draft prep. I hope this is not too personal of a look into my life since I know most of you are just here for the football. I am nearly 18 weeks pregnant and we have learned that our baby (a little girl!) has triploidy, a chromosomal abnormality that means she has three copies of every chromosome instead of the normal two. The doctors have explained that it's a completely random occurrence and fairly rare that she has made it this far along, but tha
