It's time for the 2009 average ranking position spreadsheet! As I mentioned yesterday, I pulled Top 100 overall rankings from 10 fantasy football experts and averaged them together to create one monster average ranking.
There are a few things to keep in mind:
I've posted the full spreadsheet up on Scribd but if you'd like an excel version of the spreadsheet, just e-mail me and I'll send it your way. I have the averages in one worksheet but each expert's top 100 is listed as a separate worksheet as well.
The expert sites I looked at are: Ask the Commish, CBS Sports, ESPN, FFToolbox, FOX Sports, KFFL, NFL.com, SI, SportingNews.com, and Yahoo. I originally was going to include No-Offseason as well but their inclusion of IDPs (individual defensive players) encouraged me to drop them out since it seemed like a different style of ranking. I did however include their top 100 in the full spreadsheet in case you'd like to take a look.
Keep in mind that this is just one tool to help you with your draft but I do hope it will be useful! I'm happy to update these rankings so if you've got a favorite site that has a Top 100 ranking that I haven't included, please let me know.
There are a few things to keep in mind:
- I tried to ensure that the experts all used the same scoring system (non-PPR by the way) but many sites didn't actually note their system at all.
- I pulled all of these rankings within the span of a few hours so that they represent rankings from the same time period/news/injury updates, etc.
- As in the past several years, I assigned a ranking of 125 to any player that wasn't ranked by a site. For example, several sites did not rank Donnie Avery within their Top 100 players, so I gave Avery a ranking of 125 from those sites to try and represent that missing rank.

Oh, and by the way, Favre's a Viking.
I notice though it's almost the same as another site's which uses 20 different FF sources. So why is the top 32-33 players roughly valued the same across FF community of paid experts? Is fantasy land a herd of cattle?
Still bizarre A.P. is the #1 most valued player across the FF community. Eight other RBs scored more PPR points last year, let alone looking at other position top scorers. A.P. is trade bait for whoever draft's him. Shrug.
As my way of saying thanks and returning the favor, I'd like to tell you a secret. Brett Favre is going to be a Viking!

Unfortunately FFToday only does position rankings so I won't be including them here since this really just looks at overall Top 100 rankings. But they have great rankings so I do suggest checking them out.
As for whether or not I can post the site names, I don't really know. As a librarian it probably doesn't surprise anyone that I actually care about this sort of thing and have thought about it a bit. I consider my usage of rankings to fall under an educational fair use category since I'm not creating this for any financial gain, it's not a substantial chunk of most sites' content, and the end result is likely to send you guys back to those sites in the future. No complaints so far and I know folks at most of these sites so I'm hoping they'd give me a heads up if this was a violation. I'm very careful about only sharing rankings that are freely available to the public - I feel quite strongly about that.
And thanks for the wunderground info on this NYC heat, anon. I'm off to go check it out!
Scribd lets you download the rankings to an Excel spreadsheet, along with the option to create a PDF file or a Text version. Just click on the download tab above the chart and voilá! Of course, i believe you need a Scribd account, but it's free, so what are you waiting for?

Any suggestions for 2-3 resources for evaluating players for a PPR league?
Thanks!
