Week 1 consensus start/sit

Happy weekend and welcome to the first consensus start/sit list of the 2011 season. For those who are new to the blog this season, this consensus start/sit is not my own list on who to start or sit, but instead is a tally from all these great links you've read throughout the week. I go through each of these start/sit sites and record which players got the most votes as a start or sit. It's basically a consensus from the experts on which players you should start or sit, outside of the obvious studs and duds. It goes without saying I'm sure, but as always take into account your own team makeup and scoring system when making these decisions.

Without further ado, your Week 1 consensus start/sit players listed in no particular order.

Between you and John Paulsen I have a super solid team I'd be happy to rock in a 12 team league in my 16 team league. Just one question, for you and your readers:

Would you roll will cook or Gronk at TE this week? JP is high on gronkowski but everyone seems high on cooks matchup...

What say you and your cloud?

Gianpaolo: Hightower is a must-start this week. He's a full-time back in a scheme that will make him a star, and, on top of that, he's playing a decimated Giants D. Tate will be sharing carries with Ward - probably close to a 50/50 or 60/40 split.

Ms. Librarian!

Love the blog - Have you ever gone back to look at how the consensus starts & sits have done over the years? In other words, "From 2006 to 2010, in a standard scoring league, starts 'won' (ie. scored higher than a set number of points per position) X% of the time, and sits won (ie. scored less) Y% of the time.

I talked a lot of people out of sitting Ray Rice this week. How quickly we forget it takes several weeks before patterns/trends with Matchups are accurately established.

N8Dawg - yup, I think sometimes we get too caught up in matchups and forget to start our studs...

Which leads me to Anon. Since it's the start of the season I'll remind you all that this is just a general consensus of what experts are saying. It doesn't mean you should just take this advice straight up and even if you do, well then deal with it. Sorry if I sound like an ass (and I do wish this advice had work out for you), but please remember that the decision is ultimately yours. I'd like to suggest a no whining rule here but then I'd probably have to ask for no self-congratulatory comments either...so say what you want but remember that no one forced you to follow these suggestions.

Anon, The librarian provides sources for information. This is called guidance...make your choices based on information...you are responsible for your own choices, period....probably something good to incorporate into your life as well.

I was in no way blaming the librarian for the decision I made. In fact, I didn't see this post until after I had set my lineup yesterday. I was just bemoaning the fact the consensus across the web (from sites to message boards)was wrong and that I had gone against my better instincts.

No offense intended and I love the site.

Thanks Anon, I appreciate that. Consensus pretty much everywhere was down on Austin and high on Manningham for sure. The uncertainty is why we love (and hate) fantasy football, right?! Here's to Week 2!

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. A hiatus

Update:  It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you all that yesterday, August 30th, I delivered our stillborn daughter, Caroline Mary. This has been an almost surreal and definitely heartbreaking experience and I appreciate the support in each and every one of your notes. Caroline will be honored and loved always. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your thoughts and prayers - they mean the world to our family. I have been a very poor blogger this month and feel I owe you all an explanation, particularly as this is crunch time for draft prep. I hope this is not too personal of a look into my life since I know most of you are just here for the football. I am nearly 18 weeks pregnant and we have learned that our baby (a little girl!) has triploidy, a chromosomal abnormality that means she has three copies of every chromosome instead of the normal two. The doctors have explained that it's a completely random occurrence and fairly rare that she has made it this far along, but tha
