2012 Accuracy Results!

I've been in mourning over the Broncos' loss a few weekends ago, so I'm finally coming out of my shell to let you all know that the 2012 FFLibrarian/FSTA Rankings Accuracy Challenge results are here! For those who are new to this contest, I've been running it for 6 years now and I compare experts' preseason rankings to how things shook out at the end of the season and use this analysis to determine which site is the most accurate of all. King of the fantasy football hill.

The results were presented at the FSTA Winter Conference last night and posted on the NYTimes' Fifth Down blog early this morning: Fantasy Football Accuracy Rankings for 2012. This link will give you the top 15 overall sites and then the top 10 at each position. This year I included the average ranking across the 4 positions to give you a sense of how closely the sites all line up for the most part. The top 2 sites though clearly had a bit of a lead on the rest of the field and on that note...

Congrats to both RealTime Fantasy Sports and FFMagicMan. Yup, two winning sites. Something unique happened this year: since I run this contest in conjunction with the FSTA, one of the rules is that the official winner must be a member of the FSTA, but I welcome submissions from any site that wants to throw their hat in the ring. FFMagicMan came away with the best accuracy scores (and scored in the top 10 in all 4 positions, something that I've never seen happen before), but is not an FSTA member. So instead the winner is RealTime Fantasy Sports, who also had an amazing performance by coming in the top 10 in 3 of 4 positions. As I've told both sites, this really is a spectacular job considering the hugely talented pool of 61 experts.

Last summer I finally created a multi-year analysis of these contests and I'll be adding these results in over the winter/spring. I'll post the results when they're available, but it will be well before the 2013 season begins.

Sara,

Don't know if you've realised but the Google Doc is down! For those of us coming a bit late to this post, would be great for you to have a look into it!

Cheers!

Thanks for all your great work. I'm curious when your multi-year analysis will come out. Will it cover only pre-season rankings, or projections as well?

Thanks again.

Realizing this is an old post but are there other football contest as of the moment? I've been looking for a good provider of sports betting odds where i can try my luck but seems that they are all the same as per the terms and wagering requirement is concern when it comes to sign up bonus. I missed those days where I've been pretending to be a football contest expert.

Labor Day FF links

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. So like many of you I'm now turning my attention to the Week 1 games! But before we get to some player rankings and prep for Week 1, I want to make sure that all you experts out there are aware of the upcoming deadline for the annual accuracy contest that I run with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. I compare preseason positional rankings from experts to the final outcome of the fantasy season to see which site had the most accurate preseason rankings, and this year's deadline is fast approaching: September 9th by kickoff. Check out the info on the FSTA site for more details and be sure to e-mail me your submissions. Now, onto Week 1! First up, let's get to some of this

2010 Week 2 consensus start/sit

Greetings and happy weekend. I've got this week's consensus start/sit for you which is a tally of all the start/sit votes that players received in the various start/sit articles that I linked to earlier in the week. So while these aren't my personal recommendations, I do think knowing what the consensus is could be of help when making lineup decisions...so enjoy! Note: the players are listed in no particular order. QB Start: Michael Vick, Kyle Orton, Matt Ryan, Jason Campbell Sit: David Garrard, Alex Smith, Jay Cutler, Vince Young, Carson Palmer RB Start: LeSean McCoy, Darren McFadden, Ahmad Bradshaw, Brandon Jackson Sit: Tim Hightower, C.J. A hiatus

Update:  It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you all that yesterday, August 30th, I delivered our stillborn daughter, Caroline Mary. This has been an almost surreal and definitely heartbreaking experience and I appreciate the support in each and every one of your notes. Caroline will be honored and loved always. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your thoughts and prayers - they mean the world to our family. I have been a very poor blogger this month and feel I owe you all an explanation, particularly as this is crunch time for draft prep. I hope this is not too personal of a look into my life since I know most of you are just here for the football. I am nearly 18 weeks pregnant and we have learned that our baby (a little girl!) has triploidy, a chromosomal abnormality that means she has three copies of every chromosome instead of the normal two. The doctors have explained that it's a completely random occurrence and fairly rare that she has made it this far along, but tha
