Streaming Defenses - Week 9

With Halloween landing on a Monday, I feel like I'm just crawling to the finish line all week. Last weekend felt kind of non-stop with events and plans, then Monday brought class parties for my kiddos, Halloween night trick-or-treating awesomeness happened, followed by Tuesday morning sleepiness and orneriness. And now we just need to make it to the end of the week. Hope you all are enjoying a little World Series action like we are and in honor of all my Chicago-based college buddies, go Cubs go! Here's Bob with this week's streaming defense suggestions and I'll be back with Week 9 rankings and start/sit later this week.

Welcome back fellow streamers and hold on to your hats this week. The Byes are going to have a great influence on starting Defs. But first let’s look at last week.

It was a tough week for the highly owned defenses last week, mostly due to all but two of them playing on the road. The results were that the streamers outperformed the highly owned considerably. I warned you about BUF but who could foresee MIN, PHI, and ARI posting low single digit Def points.

So what did we learn last week? A couple of things. First, the Chargers have turned the corner on Def. Evidently one player can make a huge difference and that one is Joey Bosa. Second, ‘how ‘bout dem Boys’? Not only is DAL firing on all cylinders on offense, their Def is starting to show signs of being a difference maker. New targets are ARI(?), SDC and HOU. Too bad 2 of them are on bye this week.
With 2 of the highly-owned teams on Bye this week, this is the week that can define your season. I have several rosters that are filled with starters on the bench due to the byes. And that includes defenses. But since the streamers are starting to take over there are ample opportunities for streamers this week. So I give you 5 great starts and one desperation pick.

This game looks to be a shoot-out. If DEN gets up early this could get ugly for OAK and beautiful for DEN Def. Good floor, great upside, start 'em if you got 'em.

What to think of MIN after Monday Night's disgrace? You've got to start them and hope for a rebound. They're still the top Def.

LAR is now the 2nd most generous team to Defs, and CAR is still a good defense. 1st best stream, even though they are going to be hard to find on the waiver wire.

The Chargers should be owned higher than they are, Bosa has made a huge difference and they are rolling lately. This week they get a good target too, 2nd best stream.

Colts give up big points to good Defs. Packers are good not great, but they make a nice stream this week, 3rd best.

CLE has crept out of the depths of targets lately and McCown helps that, but 'how 'bout dem Boys'? Averaging over 10 points a game in their last 3 outings, let's take them as 4th best stream this week.
BAL
PIT

I like the Ravens this week. Ravens are averaging 11 points per game this season, and no matter who starts at QB for PIT this week, with BAL at home and challenging the division, I like the stream as the 5th best.

The Dolphins are only a good, not great Def. But they draw the #1 target. Jets give up big points to good Defs. I like as the 6th best stream.

Chargers are a generous team and the Titans keep getting mentioned as a good stream, with mediocre results. This will be another one of those. Start only if you don't have any other options.

I really like the Chargers and Cowboys this week for upside. Good luck and happy streaming.

Chargers ILB Denzel Perryman (hamstring) is expected to miss Week 9, and require "weeks" of rest.
According to the Union-Tribune San Diego, Perryman will probably remain sidelined until after the Chargers' Week 11 bye.
It's a big blow for a defense that has quietly come on since Joey Bosa got cooking. The Chargers were already woefully thin at inside linebacker. A veteran free agent signing is a possibility. Nov 1 - 7:18 PM

I was about to ask something similar. With Perryman out for the Chargers, Claiborne (CB) out for Dallas, and the likelihood that rookies Kessler (QB) and Coleman (WR) start for Cleveland.....what does all that mean to the Charger and Cowboy recommendations?

As always, thanks for your time and insight.

As for Perryman out, he was in when the Chargers were just so-so before Bosa. Bosa is the difference maker, so I don't think his absence changes things too much. And as for Claiborne out for the Cowboys, it's not about the Boys' defense, it's about Cleveland's penchance for giving. So again, I hold my predictions even in light of these changes.

Labor Day FF links

Happy long weekend! Here's hoping most of you are free to enjoy the 3-day weekend and the relaxation and fun that comes with it. I spent my Sunday participating in 3 fantasy football drafts scattered throughout the day and night, but I think I've finally wrapped up my drafts for the year. So like many of you I'm now turning my attention to the Week 1 games! But before we get to some player rankings and prep for Week 1, I want to make sure that all you experts out there are aware of the upcoming deadline for the annual accuracy contest that I run with the Fantasy Sports Trade Association. I compare preseason positional rankings from experts to the final outcome of the fantasy season to see which site had the most accurate preseason rankings, and this year's deadline is fast approaching: September 9th by kickoff. Check out the info on the FSTA site for more details and be sure to e-mail me your submissions. Now, onto Week 1! First up, let's get to some of this

2010 Week 2 consensus start/sit

Greetings and happy weekend. I've got this week's consensus start/sit for you which is a tally of all the start/sit votes that players received in the various start/sit articles that I linked to earlier in the week. So while these aren't my personal recommendations, I do think knowing what the consensus is could be of help when making lineup decisions...so enjoy! A hiatus

Update:  It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you all that yesterday, August 30th, I delivered our stillborn daughter, Caroline Mary. This has been an almost surreal and definitely heartbreaking experience and I appreciate the support in each and every one of your notes. Caroline will be honored and loved always. Thank you, thank you, thank you for your thoughts and prayers - they mean the world to our family. I have been a very poor blogger this month and feel I owe you all an explanation, particularly as this is crunch time for draft prep. I hope this is not too personal of a look into my life since I know most of you are just here for the football. I am nearly 18 weeks pregnant and we have learned that our baby (a little girl!) has triploidy, a chromosomal abnormality that means she has three copies of every chromosome instead of the normal two. The doctors have explained that it's a completely random occurrence and fairly rare that she has made it this far along, but tha
